The Syrian state oil company announced that on Monday evening, an explosion in one of the shutoff valves of the gas pipeline between the Al-Shola area and Deir al-Zor caused a fire.
The state news agency SANA, citing the company, reported that the explosion was the result of an “act of sabotage.”
According to this report, the gas transfer fire from the Jebise gas facilities to power generation plants was halted.
Firefighting forces isolated both sides of the fire site and, at the same time as gas pressure dropped, operations continued to extinguish the flames.
The Syrian state oil company did not provide further details about the perpetrator or the possible factors behind the sabotage.
