The spokesperson of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced the visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir, commander of the Pakistan Army, to Tehran.
Ismail Baghaei, in an interview with reporters, said that Munir will travel to Tehran on Monday at the head of an official delegation, a trip that is being carried out “in line with strengthening Iran-Pakistan bilateral cooperation and also continuing Pakistan’s efforts to help strengthen peace and security in the region.”
Hosein Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, also spoke by telephone with Munir on Saturday, which was at least the third call between the two sides in the past three weeks.
Pakistan began mediating a ceasefire between the Islamic Republic and the United States on Farvardin 19. Munir arrives in Tehran on the day when Washington announces its new sanctions plan.
