Sistan and Baluchestan Police announced that Alireza Sancholi, a law enforcement officer, was killed at dawn on Thursday, the Ninth of Mehr, in an attack by armed individuals on a checkpoint in Ahmadabad in Rask. The police said they continue efforts to identify and arrest the attackers.

This comes as Ali Khalilabadi, Deputy for Security and Public Order of the Sistan and Baluchestan governor, had previously said that the attack had led to “no damage or any special incident.” He said the attackers opened fire on the checkpoint from the side of the river and, after the response from the forces stationed there, withdrew.

He also reported the killing of at least one military force in this attack. No explanation has been released regarding the difference between the deputy governor’s statements and the police announcement.

The attack occurred following several armed clashes in recent weeks in Sistan and Baluchestan. In separate incidents in Iranshahr, Saravan, and Zahedan, some military forces and armed individuals have been killed or wounded. Figures from some of these clashes have not been independently verified.
