According to Israeli officials, the co-pilot of a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, after stabbing the pilot, attempted to make the plane crash, but passengers restrained him and the other pilots brought the aircraft down safely in Saudi Arabia. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, in a video his office released on Wednesday, October 8, welcomed the man who intervened in the incident at Ben Gurion Airport and who was still wearing his blood-stained shirt, and told him: “I see you and I see a lion; a great hero.” Netanyahu described the event as a “very serious security incident” and said the co-pilot, who had more than 170 Israelis on board, was arrested after the landing and that Saudi officials would question him. An Israeli official said the co-pilot’s nationality was Omani. Flydubai said in a statement that the reasons for the incident remain unclear and warned against “premature speculation.”
