🔻Sisi ready to support Saudi Arabia; Egypt’s parliament holds an emergency session
After Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt, asked members of the country’s parliament to approve support for Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks, if Saudi Arabia requests it, an emergency session will be held.
In 2015, Egypt joined the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, although its role has mainly focused on securing Red Sea shipping routes rather than frontline combat operations.
Since the renewed flare-up of the Yemen war in July, the Houthis have increased their attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia, including energy facilities and Riyadh’s international airport—where 13 people were killed in last week’s attack. The Houthis also say that Saudi Arabia’s attacks on areas under their control have killed and injured large numbers of civilians.
