🔶 Several U.S. Foundations Ask Trump to Help Free American Hostages in Iran

Several American foundations and organizations, including Hostage US, the James W. Foley Memorial Foundation, the John McCain Foundation for the Freedom of Political Prisoners, as well as the campaign “Bring Our Families Home,” in a letter to the U.S. government, called for the United States government to prioritize the release and return of Americans who have been taken hostage in Iran.

According to media reports, as of October 2026, in a situation where eight months have passed since the start of the Iran war, at least four American citizens are still being held in Iran or are facing travel bans from leaving the country, although “the actual number may be higher.”

The statement said: “We ask President Trump, during negotiations with Iran, to use every opportunity to bring back the release, safety, and dignity of these American citizens.”

The statement added, referring to the fact that Americans present in Iran are “at serious risk of arbitrary detention and mistreatment solely because of their nationality,” that the Iranian government uses American citizens, people with U.S. residency, and dual nationals as leverage against the United States.
