🔶 Seizure of Iran’s Confiscated Assets; Denial of Passage Through the Strait of Hormuz
Ebrahim Zolfaghar, spokesperson for the Central Headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) “Khatam al-Anbiya,” has threatened that any institution or foreign country that receives amounts from the funds seized or frozen from Iran will be barred from passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump, before stopping the hostilities, said that for every ship that is attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz, he would attack a bridge or a power plant in this country. Later, he backed away from this position and proposed providing compensation to ships damaged by an Iranian attack, using assets of this country frozen abroad.
This position by Trump has previously also faced strong opposition from officials of the Islamic Republic. Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, wrote in a post on the X platform: “The seizure of a country’s assets to pay potential and unrelated claims in the future creates a dangerous precedent and inflames tensions.”
He predicted that “when governments turn the confiscation of others’ assets into a normal practice, no assets will be protected by security and immunity.”
