Scott Bessent, U.S. Treasury secretary, said Washington intends to take measures against the Iranian government that, according to him, will be “unprecedented” in a country’s history of economic isolation.
On Thursday, 22 Mordad, in an interview with Newsmax, Bessent said the details of these measures will be released next week.
He said the policy includes severe economic isolation and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz; a blockade, according to Bessent, that would prevent the entry of any goods into Iranian ports or their exit from these ports.
The U.S. Treasury secretary did not provide further details about the type of economic measures, the exact time of their implementation, or the institutions and sectors to be targeted.
