Saudi Arabia is preparing for a “broader attack” on the Houthis; escalation of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen

🔸Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia is planning a new and more extensive military operation against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen—an operation whose main stated objectives include retaking areas around the strategic Bab al-Mandab Strait and ensuring safe passage for shipping in the Red Sea.

🔸The likely start date of the operation is not yet known, and Reuters sources have mentioned a timeframe ranging from within the coming week to after the U.S. midterm elections in early November.

🔸At the same time, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen has been rapidly worsening. The World Food Programme announced on Friday that in parts of areas under government control, 74% of families do not have enough food.
