🔸British police announced that two Iranian citizens have been charged with planning a “terrorist” attack against the Jewish community in the city of Manchester.
🔸According to the French news agency, Salam Ahmadian, 36, from Liverpool, and Rahman Salehi, 34, from Salford, were arrested in Manchester on 29 Shahrivar.
🔸The police say the two were in contact with a “person abroad who is believed to be in Iran.”
🔸Sky News also reports that the charges include attempting to obtain materials and equipment for constructing an improvised bomb, including instructions for making a bomb with chlorine and motor oil, using encrypted messaging apps, and reviewing likely locations for the attack. The police also said they had carried out searches of homes in Liverpool and Salford.
🔸No full details of the plot the police have mentioned have been released, but the police said they thwarted it and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
🔸The news is being released on the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, and nearly a year after the deadly attack on the Heaton Park synagogue in north Manchester, which left two people dead.
