🔸 The Russian government announced on Monday, 16 Shahrivar, its decision to close the German consulate in Saint Petersburg.

🔸 Moscow has given German diplomats working at this representation until September 18 to leave Russian territory.

🔸 The move was announced by Russia in response to a decision by the German federal government to shut down the consulate general of the Russian Federation in Bonn.

🔸 In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation officially said that it is “revoking the operating license of the Federal Republic of Germany consulate in Saint Petersburg, and this diplomatic mission must end its activities in this city by September 27.”

🔸 The Russian foreign ministry also reminded that the staff of the Goethe cultural institute must leave the country’s territory by the end of this week.

🔸 Last week, Germany—by accusing Russia of planning a drone attack on the Leipzig airport—issued an order to close the Russian consulate in Bonn, and also shut down Russia’s cultural center in Berlin.

🔸 The European Union also described the Leipzig airport incident, in which a drone carrying explosive materials played a role, as “comprising all the indicators of state terrorism.”
