🔻Reuters report on today’s trip by “Qatari mediators” to Tehran
🔻Reuters, citing a senior official, reported that the Qatari mediators will travel to Tehran again on Friday as part of efforts to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran.
The official familiar with the negotiations, who was not named, told Reuters that the Qatari delegation, during its trip to Tehran on Sunday (3 Aban/25 October), submitted to Iran a draft peace plan. However, a senior Iranian official rejected these proposals and said Tehran would remain committed to its nuclear positions.
Washington wants nuclear issues to be put on the agenda from the very beginning of the talks. In contrast, Tehran says that the United States must first end the blockade of Iran’s ports and lift sanctions related to that country’s oil exports.
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, said on Wednesday that Tehran is still in close contact with the mediators to explore ways that could guarantee the implementation of Iran’s proposed seven-day plan to end the war.
Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said yesterday, in response to a report by U.S. media about contacts between J.D. Vance, the U.S. vice president, and Iran, that these calls were about supplying medical equipment. But U.S. media linked these calls to efforts to restart peace negotiations.
