Police in Poland said on Friday, the 8th of Aban, that they detained a 55-year-old Russian citizen on suspicion of activity for a foreign intelligence service, and that a court ordered three months of detention.

Officers who were present at a football match in Świdnica, in southern Poland, saw him near a railway crossing taking photographs of passing trains and railway infrastructure. The police said thousands of photos of key locations and transport facilities, not only in Poland, were found on him.

In a police statement, it said that all indications suggest that the photos taken “could have been used against the security of the country.”

Poland has repeatedly accused Russia of spying and carrying out infiltration operations on its soil, including with foreign citizens, and Russia has denied it.
