🔶 Phone call between Iran and Ukraine’s foreign ministers to avoid “unnecessary tensions”

Andriy Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, said on Tuesday, July 28, that he had a “frank” conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in which he emphasized the need to avoid “unnecessary tensions” between the two countries.

Sybiha said that in this phone call he again stressed to Araghchi that “all of Ukraine’s actions are solely aimed at defending our country against Russian aggression, and have never been intended to target ships or civilians.”

Sybiha wrote on the X network: “This also applies to Iran’s statements about its deceased citizen and the non-military vessel that was targeted in the recent incident.” He also referred to Moscow as “the root cause of all these incidents.”

After Ukraine’s recent attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea, Iranian officials have increased their threats against Kyiv. Over the weekend, Ukraine said its drones attacked two Russian vessels carrying military cargoes in the Caspian Sea. Kyiv claimed that both vessels were en route from Iran to a Russian port.
