🔻Maryam Mahdavi, one of Iran’s first contemporary clothing designers, died on Mordad 27, 1405, at the age of 76 due to cancer. A large part of her body of work still remains in people’s homes and wardrobes who were once her customers or friends.

The lack of a cohesive collection of her works, to some extent, reflects the story of the same period in which Maryam Mahdavi worked: a time when clothing design existed, but there was no institution to document and preserve its history.

For several decades, from the years of political repression and social control in the 1980s to recent years, Maryam Mahdavi designed clothing; a period when fashion in Iran had neither an official market, nor a magazine to record it, nor an exhibition, nor an archive to keep track of designers’ work.
