🔶 Oil leak from a tanker; Umm Al Quwain’s shores in the UAE were closed
The UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced that an oil spill from a tanker has polluted the shores of Umm Al Quwain, and that all beaches and coastal areas of this emirate have been temporarily closed until the end of technical assessments.
The ministry said that containment and cleanup operations have begun in cooperation with local and federal entities.
Investigations to determine the extent of the pollution and to protect the marine environment are ongoing.
According to the ministry, the smell that residents of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain reported poses no risk to their health.
Authorities have asked fishermen and other people working at sea to follow the guidelines and to avoid fishing in contaminated areas. In this statement, the name of the tanker, the cause of the spill, and the amount of oil released into the water have not been announced.
