🔸October 7 anniversary; Friedrich Merz emphasizes Germany’s support for Israel, calls for peace

Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, on the occasion of the third anniversary of Hamas’s terrorist attack on Israel, paid tribute to the victims of the attack and, emphasizing Germany’s support for Israel, called for the creation of an order in which Israelis, Palestinians, and neighboring countries can live in peace and security.

Referring to the October 7 attacks by the Hamas terrorist group on Israel, Merz said he hopes that the “deep pain and wounds left by these monstrous and brutal acts” will heal.

The German chancellor emphasized that “Israel’s friends can count on Germany’s efforts so that such a crime is never repeated again,” and added: “The German state will decisively fight antisemitism because Jews must be able to live throughout Germany without fear. Germany will stand up to those who call into question the right of Israel to exist.”
