Moqtada Sadr, leader of Iraq’s Sadrist movement, in a statement called for preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and preventing the country from being drawn into regional clashes, and asked the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps not to target Iraq.

Moqtada Sadr said in the statement: “Since the sacred land of Iraq has not been the starting point of attacks against the Islamic Republic, I ask the brothers in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps not to target our independent and sacred land.”

He also called on “uncontrolled militias” not to give Gulf countries a pretext to target Iraq, and emphasized that “all parties must preserve the spirit of brotherhood and peace.”

The leader of Iraq’s Sadrist movement warned that countries should not get caught up in U.S.-Israeli plans which, according to him, are designed to draw the parties into war and conflict.

Moqtada Sadr asked the Iraqi government to establish security, assert the country’s sovereignty, and to take serious action to preserve the lives of the people of Iraq, “sacred sites and prevent sectarian clashes.”
