Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said that the Donald Trump administration does not consider the current standoff with the Islamic Republic a “continuing war” and is trying to bring military operations to an end. He said the conflict is now in its final stage and that, in his view, it will soon be resolved.

Johnson said on Saturday, 28 Shahrivar, on the program “This Week on Capitol Hill” that one of the main pillars of the current negotiations is keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for commercial shipping. He added that the Islamic Republic creates disruptions in transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and that keeping this waterway open is in the interest of the whole world.

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives said that at least 25 countries, including the United States’ NATO allies and Arab countries in the region, can participate in keeping the Strait of Hormuz open.

Johnson also called the operation “Rage of the Brave” successful and said its objective was to remove the Islamic Republic’s ability to obtain a nuclear bomb. He opposed the actions by Democrats in Congress to limit the military powers of the U.S. president and said that, in the current circumstances, Congress should not interfere in the decisions of the commander-in-chief regarding military forces.
