🔶 Merz: Russia is a major threat to Germany and seeks to destabilize the country
Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of Germany, on Saturday (October 24), in Munich and at a meeting of the Christian Social Party of Bavaria, described Russia as a major threat to the security of his country and said that Moscow is constantly trying to destabilize Germany.
He also warned about growing pressure from extremist currents of both the left and the right on Germany’s political system.
According to Reuters, Merz said in his speech at the meeting that Germany faces very serious challenges in the field of domestic and foreign security.
Referring to threats arising from Russia, he said: “We are facing a huge threat in the east of our continent.”
The German chancellor added that Russia’s war against Ukraine has strongly affected the European security order, and now Moscow is trying to expand the scope of its actions to other countries as well.
Merz stressed: “We see that Russia every day is trying to destabilize Germany.”
He, referring to cyberattacks, sabotage, and threats to critical infrastructure in Europe, warned that the risks arising from Russia’s actions are no longer limited to the war in Ukraine.
