Meir Javedanfar, an analyst of Israeli affairs, said that Gadi Eisenkot, with the support of 67 Knesset representatives, is in a suitable position to form a government, but differences among the coalition parties over the participation of Arab parties could prevent his success.
According to him, Lieberman opposes the presence of Arab parties in the government and prefers cooperation with religious parties.
Javedanfar added that the opposition of religious parties to the conscription of young Orthodox people is another important obstacle on the path to forming the coalition. He said that if Eisenkot cannot form a government within the set deadline and Israel is pulled into new elections, it will provide a fresh opportunity for Benjamin Netanyahu to return to power.
