🔻 March of tens of thousands in Spain in protest against the housing crisis
Tens of thousands of people in Spain took to the streets in Madrid, the capital, and more than 50 other cities, calling for immediate action to address the housing crisis.
Public anger has intensified after the parliament rejected the adoption of an emergency law to support tenants.
A BBC reporter in Madrid says the protesters want serious and wide-ranging measures to solve the housing crisis, and they are pleased that they have managed to make housing the top political priority in the country.
Meanwhile, speculation has increased about the possibility that Pedro Sánchez, the socialist prime minister of Spain, may be seeking to exploit public discontent and hold early elections.
His government’s proposals in parliament were met with opposition from right-wing and far-right parties and were not adopted.
