Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Prime Minister of Greece, on Thursday, the Seventh of Aban, called for a global ceasefire in maritime transport and said that attacks on non-military civilian commercial ships are unacceptable and threaten international trade and security. Mitsotakis said at a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council, held during Greece’s presidency of the council on the topic of emerging technologies and maritime security, that commercial vessels should be able to transit freely and with full safety even during military conflicts. He said: “Attacking non-military civilian commercial ships is completely unacceptable.” The Greek prime minister added that disrupting freedom of navigation increases maritime transport costs and insurance costs, creates instability in global markets, and ultimately imposes higher costs on consumers.
