🔻Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that after consultations with leaders of political parties, he will task Gadi Eisenkot with forming a new government.

He said that in these talks, the leader of the opposition bloc received the most support and the parties’ recommendations to form a government.

The office of the Israeli president said in a statement: “The president informed Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yesh Atid (Yeshar) party, of his decision to mandate him to form a government.”

The statement said that the official mandate to form the government will be granted to Mr. Eisenkot on Sunday in an official ceremony at the presidential residence in Jerusalem.

In the recent Israeli election, none of the coalition parties was able to obtain the threshold of 61 seats to form a government on its own.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition won 53 seats out of 120 in the Knesset, opposition parties won 48 seats, and Arab parties won 19 seats.
