Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday, 16 Aban, that Badr Abdelatty and Faisal bin Farhan, the foreign ministers of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, discussed in a phone call on Friday the joint efforts to reduce tensions and prevent a new wave of military confrontation in the region.

According to an official statement from Egypt, the two ministers asked the parties involved to show restraint, avoid actions that escalate tensions, and cooperate with the efforts of mediators to reach an understanding.

Nader Zaki, spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the two sides agreed to continue consultations with relevant countries and pursue a political solution to address the root of the crisis. The statement warned that renewed military confrontation could undermine the security and stability of the region and would return diplomatic efforts to their starting point.

The call took place as part of Egypt’s regional consultations. Abdelatty also spoke on Thursday, 14 Aban, with Abbas Araqchi, foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing the parties’ flexibility, reaching moderate solutions, and preventing the political, economic, and humanitarian consequences of an escalation of fighting.
