🔸Israel raids a Palestinian village; dozens “detained”

Local officials said Israeli forces on Monday, September 21 (September 30), raided the birthplace of a Palestinian man suspected of killing an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank with a gunshot the day before.

The shooting on Sunday near the Israeli settlement of Halmiš (Neta Tsoof), north of Ramallah, took place ahead of the Jewish holiday Yom Kippur. Israeli soldiers, after finding the suspect at a hospital, arrested him.

The Israeli army told Agence France-Presse yesterday, Sunday, that its forces raided the home of the family of the individual who carried out the attack in the Palestinian village of Beit Du, located in the northwest of Jerusalem (al-Quds) in the West Bank.

The Jerusalem Governorate, the Palestinian local authority responsible for the area, said that Israeli forces then raided the village of Beit Du at dawn on Monday and “launched a large-scale campaign to detain dozens of young people.”

Nzim Mansour, mayor of Beit Du, told Agence France-Presse that the army entered the village after midnight with “dozens of military jeeps and hundreds of soldiers.”

He said: “The soldiers began house-to-house searches and set up field interrogation centers in buildings where they took control.” Mansour added that dozens of people were interrogated.
