Iranian news agencies have reported a fire in a reservoir of a wetland in the north of the Hoor al-Azim marsh.
The head of the rehabilitation department for Khuzestan wetlands says that last week, another fire occurred in the wetland over an area of between 120 and 140 hectares.
Musa Modhejhi told the ISNA news agency that this fire was probably caused by herdsmen for the movement of livestock, grazing, and for the buffaloes’ bathing.
He said that the Iraqi part of the Hoor al-Azim marsh has not yet experienced any fires and still has water.
According to IRNA, the first reservoir of the Hoor al-Azim marsh, due to not having sufficient water rights, faces widespread drying and frequent fires every year, along with spot fires that are natural.
