🔻Iran’s parliament has approved a new mechanism to punish illegal entry or stay by foreign nationals, under which violators are fined up to 10,000 euros.

The mechanism was agreed to by lawmakers during the review of the bill “Countering the infiltration of intelligence services and foreign states or institutions” in today’s open session of parliament.

Lawmakers approved an amendment to Article 23 of this bill, under which “illegal entry into or stay in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran by foreign nationals that is not due to a valid excuse or delay in administrative processes for renewing a permit, in addition to the registration of biometric or other biometric data, will entail deportation from the country and the payment of a fine proportionate to financial capacity up to 10,000 euros, as determined by the judicial authority.”

It was also stipulated that foreign nationals who have entered the country legally, if they carry out any “action against national security, violation of public order, or engaging in an activity that fundamentally conflicts with the types of limitations stated in their residence permit or visa, will be subject to the punishment of deportation and the fine under this article.”
