🔻Baqaei calls Germany and European countries’ positions on the attack on Iran “contradictory”
Ismail Baqaei, the spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the positions of Germany and several other European countries regarding military attacks on Iran as “contradictory and irresponsible.”
Mr. Baqaei, in a message on the X platform, in response to the European countries’ expressed concern about the possibility of escalation of tensions in the region, referred to statements by Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, in June 2025.
He wrote: “In June 2025, Friedrich Merz, the German chancellor, said about Israel’s military incursion into Iran: ‘This is the dirty work that Israel does for all of us.’”
The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added: “Now, in October 2026, Germany’s foreign minister and several other European countries are warning about a renewed attack on Iran and stressing the need to rein in tensions.”
In June 2025, during the G7 summit in Canada, Mr. Merz, in an interview with Germany’s ZDF television network, supported Israel’s attacks on Iran and said that Israel “does the dirty work for everyone.”
At the end of his message, Mr. Baqaei also criticized the positions of European countries by quoting parts of the play “The Maid of Orléans” by Friedrich Schiller, a German writer.
