Iran’s Islamic Republic Airlines said its official .com website domain has been blocked following the implementation of sanctions, and a new address with an .ir suffix has replaced it.
The company said in a statement that the new address replaced the previous one starting November 2, and that the online ticket sales system is available to passengers on a subdomain of the same address.
In resolutions from 1387 and 1389, the United Nations Security Council placed Iran’s Islamic Republic Airlines on a list of entities whose cargo must be inspected. The United States imposed sanctions on the company starting in 1390 under two executive orders, and the sale of spare parts was banned.
After the nuclear agreement, the United States removed the company’s name from the sanctions list and issued a general license for the sale of commercial aircraft to Iran in Esfand 1394.
After the United States withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 1397, it revoked the license. In Aban 1397, the U.S. Treasury Department placed the company back on the list and added 67 aircraft under its operation to the list of sanctioned individuals and entities.
Iran’s airline fleet is aging, and the shortage of spare parts for repair and maintenance has made it more costly.
