🔸Iran’s deputy foreign minister said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic rejected Oman’s proposal to split equally the transit and traffic routes between the two countries in the Strait of Hormuz,

🔸Kazem Qaribabadi, in an interview with Iran’s state-run television, claimed about the plan that the Omani side had proposed a route to be designed in which 50 percent would be under Iran’s control and 50 percent under Oman’s. He added: “We said that this does not address Iran’s concerns.”

🔸The deputy foreign minister of Iran also reported that Tehran has proposed to Oman a temporary arrangement for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, under which ship traffic would take place along a route through Iran’s territorial waters, and part of the route on the way back and forth would also be placed in Iranian waters.

🔸Previously, Reuters reported, citing a knowledgeable source, that Oman has offered Iran a proposal to create a regional joint mechanism with voluntary payment of tolls or transit fees to manage the Strait of Hormuz.

🔸According to the source, whose name was not disclosed, Oman’s proposal is supported by regional countries and, under it, Iran would not have exclusive control of this vital waterway.
