🔸Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine’s foreign minister, said on Tuesday that after a Ukrainian drone strike on one of Iran’s ships in the Caspian Sea, he spoke with his Iranian counterpart, warned about any escalation of tensions, and called for an end to Iran’s support for Russia.
🔸On the social media platform X, Sybiha wrote about his conversation with Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister: “I emphasized the need to refrain from any provocative action as well as to end any support for the war of Russia against Ukraine. This war is unlawful and must end.”
🔸Iran has said that the ship targeted by Ukraine was “commercial,” and that during the attack a sailor was killed. Ukrainian officials said the ship was transferring military equipment from Russia to Iran.
🔸Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry described Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea as a “threatening act.”
🔸In a statement, Maria Zakharova said: “The Caspian Sea must remain protected from any military incident and continue to be an area for peace, good-neighborliness, and cooperation.”
