🔶 Iran consults with Oman and Saudi Arabia over the Strait of Hormuz

Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s foreign minister, on Tuesday, the sixth of Mordad, in separate phone calls with his Omani and Saudi counterparts, discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it said Araqchi emphasized “the need to strengthen cooperation and advance joint diplomatic efforts to establish stability in the region and eliminate the insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the aggressive actions of the United States.”

An informed source in the Persian Gulf who asked not to be named told Reuters that Badr al-Busaidi, Oman’s foreign minister, put forward a proposal to Araqchi for creating a joint regional mechanism to manage this vital waterway.

Reports indicate that the proposal was designed based on the model used to regulate traffic in the Strait of Malacca (between Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore); a model in which a voluntary toll system is used to finance shipping, protect the environment, and search-and-rescue operations.
