🔻Iran and the Taliban government reviewed increasing bilateral trade to $10 billion
🔻The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Taliban government has announced that during a visit by a delegation from the Iranian parliament to Kabul, the two sides discussed increasing trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Iran up to a ceiling of $10 billion per year. If achieved, this would increase the two countries’ trade exchanges by nearly three times the current level.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Taliban government said that the issue was raised in a meeting between Nurdin Azizi, Minister of Industry and Trade, and a delegation from the Iranian parliament led by Mohsen Zanganeh.
In recent weeks, Iranian officials—at the same time as the intensification of a maritime blockade by the United States and the imposition of serious restrictions on flights of Iranian aircraft—have been seeking to expand exchanges with neighboring countries and to increase import capacity through land and rail routes.
The ministry’s statement did not refer to specific timelines for achieving this goal, but some Iranian media have reported that the two sides are pursuing attainment of this target within a three-year period.
To achieve this goal, Iran has provided some border facilities, and officials of this country have recently said that part of border activities with Afghanistan will be carried out on a 24-hour basis. Iran has adopted a similar policy with Pakistan, its other eastern neighbor.
