Human rights news sources in Iran reported that on Tuesday, 27 Mordad, citizens held a widespread gathering in front of Sanandaj Prison to prevent the execution of a prisoner, and said that despite widespread protests, the execution was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Iran Human Rights Center reported that a number of civil activists and Sanandaj citizens gathered in front of Sanandaj Prison starting at 1 a.m. Tuesday to obtain the consent of the victim’s next of kin, with the slogan “No to execution,” but their efforts were unsuccessful.
HRA News Agency identified the executed prisoner as Kave Refushe and reported that he, about three years ago, during an urban dispute in Sanandaj, “accidentally” committed murder, and that after the incident he did not flee and instead turned himself in to the police; however, following his arrest, a criminal court in Sanandaj sentenced him to death.
