Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the foreign minister of the Islamic Republic, in response to the British prime minister’s remarks about the existence of “strong evidence” regarding the role of the Islamic Republic in the Farford airbase incident, wrote on X: “I can also confirm Iran’s belief that releasing people who are said to be terrorists and work for foreign governments speaks for itself. You have completely taken the wrong path.”
Five British men were detained on Sunday near the Farford base on suspicion of crimes related to terrorism and explosives, and were then released on bail. The UK’s counter-terrorism police has said that investigations into the possibility that these individuals acted on behalf of a foreign state are still ongoing.
The Islamic Republic had previously denied any involvement in the incident. U.S. forces have used the Farford base for operations against the Islamic Republic.
