🔻Hosein Afshin, Iran’s president’s science and technology vice president, warned about the consequences of approving the bill “Confronting the Influence of Foreigners,” and said that implementing it with the current provisions could “practically cut off all international scientific relations of the country.”

Mr. Afshin said that if this approach is ultimately approved, it will have serious effects on the country’s scientific and international communications.

Referring to the scientific consequences of this bill, he added: “Implementing such a bill creates a scientific standstill in the country, and for this reason we are seriously opposed to this bill in its current form.”

The bill “Confronting the influence of foreign intelligence services and governments or institutions in the country,” which has been discussed in the Majles since Tir 1404, after approval of the generalities by the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, was also approved in the open session on 25 Mordad 1405, and the review of its articles is still ongoing.

So far, two articles of this bill have been approved, and the government has warned about consequences including the limiting of scientific cooperation, increased brain drain, and its negative effects inside and outside the country.
