Hamas announced that a delegation from the group will travel to Cairo to resume negotiations on implementing the second phase of a ceasefire with Israel. Based on a statement by the group, the delegation will meet with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey as well as Palestinian factions to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure the implementation of all obligations agreed upon.
The Gaza ceasefire began on 18 Mehr 1404 and after two years of war. Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States are also mediators and guarantors of the agreement.
The second phase includes Hamas disarmament, transferring administration of Gaza to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, deployment of the International Stabilization Force with authorization from UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and further pullback of Israeli forces.
Nikolay Mladenov, the High Representative of the “Peace Mission” in Gaza, has repeatedly said that the main obstacle to the entry of the national committee into Gaza is Hamas’s refusal to hand over its weapons.
