NATO allows Ukraine to buy weapons, ammunition, and military equipment through its centralized procurement agency.
The Financial Times wrote that Ukraine will enter into a partnership with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency. This new route could make the provision of defensive equipment faster and cheaper, and reduce Ukraine’s full reliance on bilateral negotiations.
Jacqueline Boursbom, director of operations support at this agency, told the Financial Times that participation in a “more structured framework” will give Ukraine access to procurement expertise, support services, and an established industrial base.
Boursbom added that savings from economies of scale will also be created, and cited that Ukraine could place an order for 30,000 sets of military clothing.
The agreement is announced as relations between Ukraine and the United States have cooled. Trump has criticized Ukraine’s long-range attacks on Russian oil refineries and attributed the increase in fuel prices to these attacks.
Steve Witkoff, the U.S. special envoy, met with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.
