The first shipment of Venezuelan crude oil under a US agreement with NaBP was unloaded on Tuesday in Texas, and a White House official told Reuters that the US government is selling this oil to ExxonMobil and Citgo Petroleum refineries.
On the same day, Donald Trump visited the Corpus Christi port and told reporters: “They gave me a ship full of one million barrels of oil, and I’m giving it to the United States.”
NaBP described the shipment as “at no cost to American taxpayers.”
NaBP, whose full name is North American Blue Energy Partners, is Venezuela’s second-largest privately owned oil producer. According to CBS, Venezuela granted the company a century-long drilling concession covering 17 oil fields, and the US Department of Defense takes 35% of its shares.
