The first shipment of U.S. liquefied natural gas that arrived in China after more than a year will be re-exported without entering the country’s domestic market. According to a Bloomberg report citing informed sources, Chinese companies are seeking higher profits in foreign markets and avoiding paying tariffs.
The cargo was offloaded on Tir 24 at the Yangpu port in southern China and is now being prepared for re-export. If this shipment were to enter China’s domestic market, the buyer would have to pay a 25% tariff.
In Bahman 1403, in response to tariffs imposed by Donald Trump’s administration on Chinese goods, China included U.S. liquefied gas in the tariff measure, and imports had been halted since then.
