🔶 Egyptian parliament votes in favor of Sisi’s request for military assistance to Saudi Arabia
The House of Representatives of Egypt on Monday, October 26 (Aban 4), with a two-thirds majority, approved President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s request to provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia.
The decision was made after three sessions on October 18, 19 and 26.
According to a statement from the Egyptian House of Representatives, this authorization gives Sisi the power to take actions, in coordination with Saudi Arabia, to defend that country’s “land, sovereignty and sacred sites.”
The statement did not specify particular actions or an official deployment of forces, but parliamentary meetings included discussion of the “possibility of stationing military forces.”
The decision was taken as attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on Saudi territory have intensified.
Saudi officials have reported drone and missile attacks on various areas, including Riyadh and southern areas near the Yemen border.
The Saudi-led coalition continues to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government against the Houthis.
