🔶 Drone strike hits U.S. gas tanker at Egypt’s Damietta port

According to the statement of the maritime security company Ambrey, a drone on Wednesday, the 7th of Mordad, struck a U.S.-owned gas storage vessel at the Mediterranean port of Damietta in Egypt.

Based on a report by Reuters, Ambrey, citing initial assessments, said the attack caused a fire.

The port services company Inchcape also, in a separate report, announced that two gas-carrying vessels in the port of Damietta had caught fire.

“MarineTraffic,” an online international service that shows vessels’ real-time positions and movement information on a world map, says in a report about the incident: “Following this accident, and as damage assessments are carried out by authorities, both vessels were moved into waters offshore.”

According to three commercial sources familiar with the details of the incident, the drone hit the floating storage tanker “Energus Winter,” causing a fire on board. The fire then spread to another ship called “Gaslog Salome.”

Two separate security sources also confirmed that the cause of the explosion and the fire was a drone attack.
