🔶 Diplomacy under the shadow of war; will Tehran and Washington reach an agreement?
While Qatar is shuttling between Tehran and Washington, the discussion over a nuclear agreement has once again gained momentum. At the same time, heightened military readiness, differences within the Trump administration, and the knot over enriched uranium have made the path of diplomacy difficult.
According to a New York Times report citing five informed officials, the Islamic Republic of Iran is reviewing proposals that Qatari mediators have put forward in recent weeks. Qatar has held two rounds of talks in Tehran in one week and one round in Doha, and its representatives have also met Iranian officials in Armenia.
The content of the proposals has not been disclosed, but officials described them as “specific and tangible.”
This diplomatic momentum comes as the United States and Israel have prepared a list of potential targets for a major attack on Iran, including the country’s energy infrastructure. Tehran has also warned that, in the event of a new strike, the scope of its response would be broader than before. Iranian leaders and clerics are also discussing withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
