🔶 Deportation of migrants to Afghanistan; the challenge of the German government’s dealings with the Taliban

Alexander Deubrent, Germany’s interior minister, at the start of this week announced another deportation flight of Afghan nationals to Kabul. For this politician of the Christian Social Union, this is considered a success.

Deubrent said that 31 men were deported to Afghanistan who “most of them were dangerous criminals and perpetrators of serious crimes.” However, according to him, for the first time there was also an Afghan citizen among them for whom “the label of a criminal or a convicted criminal does not apply.”

Marcel Ehrisch, a member of the Greens, described the move as “a sign of this government’s bankruptcy from the standpoint of humanitarianism,” and said that all these actions were only made possible because the government carried out a “dirty deal” with the Taliban.
