🔶Axios: The U.S. government believes sanctions will hurt Iran more than military attacks

Axios reported on Tuesday, July 28 (Mordad 6), citing U.S. officials, that in the view of the Trump administration, sanctions and economic pressure will do more damage to the Islamic Republic than bombing and military attacks.

As Axios wrote, reports from U.S. intelligence organizations as well as media outlets indicate a worsening economic crisis in Iran, a shortage of gasoline, and thus an increase in pressure on the government of the Islamic Republic.

A U.S. official told Axios: “The Iranians want the bombings to end and they’re also looking to get money. Of course, they first want money and then the end of the bombings.”

According to Axios, Trump, who over the weekend—after 13 consecutive nights of U.S. operations against Iran—ordered the attacks to be stopped, on Monday, July 27 (Mordad 5), claimed that Tehran wants the United States to arrange a meeting and talks regarding a deal. This comes as Ismail Baqai, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic, rejected the claim at his press conference.
