🔸Axios: Rubio had asked Iraqchi to “leave” New York “immediately”

Barak Ravid, an Axios reporter, citing an American official and a source with knowledge of the matter, reported that on Monday, September 28 (Mehr 6), U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio asked the Iranian delegation, headed by Abbas Araghchi, to “immediately” leave New York.

According to Axios, the decision was made after Qatar’s efforts to bring Tehran and Washington’s positions closer did not reach significant progress.

One American official said that, on Rubio’s orders, the U.S. mission to the United Nations delivered an exit message to the Iranian delegation in the evening of the same day. He told Axios: “Rubio kicked out the Iranian delegation that had stayed too long with us. The United Nations General Assembly was over and it was time for them to go.”

The Iranian delegation, including Abbas Araghchi, set out for the airport a few hours later and left New York for Doha at 1:20 a.m. on Tuesday. However, a second Axios source, while confirming the U.S. request for the Iranian delegation to leave, said that Araghchi’s trip from New York had been planned in advance for Monday night.
