🔻Alma Aveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, in response to recent controversies surrounding her brother and the Portugal national team, defended Ronaldo in an Instagram post and criticized the national team’s structure, Portuguese media, and the people of the country.
🔹Ronaldo sat on the bench during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway and did not get the chance to play. After the press conference with Jorge Jesus and discussions with Pedro Proença, president of the Portuguese Football Federation, he left the national team camp.
🔹In her message, Alma Aveiro wrote: “Cristiano deserved more respect. The national team needed a more solid structure. Portuguese journalism needed more merit and fewer speculations. But the people of Portugal are not deserving of the best in any field. We are envious, disrespectful, and uninformed, and we deserve to return to the same average level that Portuguese football had before Cristiano. Thank you for everything, Cristiano. You deserved more.”
🔹These remarks have added to uncertainties about Ronaldo’s future with the Portugal national team. At 41 years old, he remains the all-time leading goalscorer and appearances record holder for the Portugal national team and, according to UEFA statistics, he has scored 146 goals in 234 national team matches as of September 29.
