Axios, citing two sources, reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told several foreign counterparts that Washington “at this time” does not expect new attacks against the Islamic Republic to be launched and is focusing on economic pressure, a naval blockade, and fresh sanctions.

As Axios wrote, Rubio said the United States has no intention of returning to large-scale military operations, but if the Islamic Republic attacks, he does not rule out a military response.

U.S. officials say that mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz and the increased transfer of oil through this route have weakened one of Tehran’s main levers. They also claim that the naval blockade has deprived the Islamic Republic of vital oil revenues.

One U.S. official said Washington is not negotiating with Tehran now, and the goal is to increase pressure to bring the Islamic Republic back to the negotiating table.

Axios also reported that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, White House envoys, are expected to visit CENTCOM to receive a report on the situation on the ground.
