Margo Tsahkhna, Estonia’s foreign minister, announced that the country has banned the transit of grain from Russia and Belarus through its territory.
In a message on the X social network, Tsahkhna wrote that Russia attacks Ukraine’s ports, blocks the export of Ukrainian grain, and then looks for new routes to transport its own grain. He added: “Estonia will not provide such a route.”
He said that earlier in September he had warned that no plans should be made to route Russian grain through Estonia, adding: “Today, we turned this warning into law.”
The foreign minister of Estonia also said the country, along with Latvia and Lithuania, is working to prevent Baltic countries’ ports from being turned into a transit route for Russia.
Tsahkhna added: “Russia cannot wage a war of aggression and expect us to help it continue trading. We will not help finance Russia’s war, and we will not make its continued aggression easier.”
